URL

URL is an acronym that stands for "Uniform Resource Locater," which essentially means a unique address on the Internet for a file, document, picture, movie, or any other available object/service. Just like every phone number is unique and will only direct callers to one phone, a URL will only open a single unique object on the Internet.

In order to identify where the object is located and what protocol/language to communicate with when requesting the object from the host computer connected to the Internet, URL's are made up of a number of specific parts.
